Materials & tools
- 6–8 LED diyas with secure battery covers
- Stable trays or shallow stands
- Soft cloth
- Spare batteries stored by an adult
- Measuring tape if needed
Step-by-step instructions
- Walk the route from the entrance to the main room and identify any narrow points or steps.
- Choose lamp positions beside the route on stable supports, keeping door swings, exits and handrails clear.
- Wipe the supports and test each LED. An adult should replace batteries and secure every compartment.
- Arrange lights in small evenly spaced groups, leaving enough room for people to carry bags or serving trays.
- Dim the room lights briefly and walk the route again. Move lamps that create confusing shadows or sit close to a footpath.
- Switch the LEDs off after the gathering. Collect every lamp and spare battery before children or pets use the area unsupervised.
Good to know
- Use separate suitable holders and constant adult supervision for any real flame elsewhere.
- Do not place lamps directly on stairs.
- Keep button batteries securely away from children.
