Materials & tools
- Existing festive decorations
- Soft cleaning cloths
- Storage boxes
- Paper labels
- Optional ribbon for non-heated ornaments
- LED lamps for decorative holders
Step-by-step instructions
- Unpack decorations on a clear table and sort into usable, repairable and damaged groups.
- Check lights and battery compartments for damage. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and take damaged electrical items out of use.
- Dust sturdy ornaments with a soft cloth and use only cleaning methods suitable for their finish. Dry pieces before storing or displaying.
- Choose one colour palette and group a few compatible pieces on a tray. Avoid covering every surface with leftover decorations.
- Add ribbon only to non-heated ornaments. Any painted or decorated craft lamp should use an LED, with spare batteries stored securely.
- Photograph the arrangement, then label boxes by area for easier packing away. Set aside pieces you no longer need for an appropriate reuse or disposal route.
Good to know
- Do not repair mains wiring as a casual craft activity.
- Cracked lamp holders should not hold flames.
- Reuse does not require adding fresh paint or buying new accessories.
