Materials & tools
- Floor-safe rangoli colours in 2–3 shades
- Chalk suitable for the surface
- Small bowl for marking the centre
- Paper and pencil

Step-by-step instructions
- Sweep and dry an area about 45 cm square beside the entrance. Test chalk and colour on a discreet patch to check for staining.
- Sketch the design on paper: one centre circle with four petals around it. Choose which shade belongs in each section.
- Mark a centre dot and four guide dots evenly around it. Trace the small bowl for the centre circle, then connect curved lines around the outside dots.
- Fill the centre first and work outward, using small pinches of colour. Keep the borders visible and brush away spills as you go.
- Repeat the same petal size and colour order around the design. Add a simple outer dotted border rather than extending into the walking path.
- Check that the door can open fully and people can pass without stepping through colour. Photograph the finished pattern and sweep it up after the celebration.

- A paper-board version works in homes where floor colour may stain.
- Keep powder and decorative petals away from food.
- Place any lamp on a separate suitable tray, clear of the rangoli.
