Step-by-step instructions
- Check the jar is food-safe, free of chips and completely clean and dry. Reject any lid with rust or a damaged seal.
- Confirm the recipient’s allergies and preferences before choosing the contents. Keep different allergens separate during packing.
- Inspect the food and use a clean dry spoon to fill the jar, leaving enough room to close it without crushing the contents.
- Write the actual ingredients, relevant allergens, packing date and storage instructions on a clear label. Keep any original product date information available.
- Close the lid firmly and tie a ribbon around the outside. Keep glue, paint and decorative fabric away from the food-contact surfaces.
- Add a short message and store as the food requires until gifting. Hand over perishable sweets in suitable chilled packaging rather than this dry-jar format.
