Materials & tools
- 30–40 marigold flower heads for a small doorway, adjust after measuring
- 6–8 clean mango leaves (optional, if customary)
- Strong cotton thread or cord, doorway width plus tying allowance
- Needle and scissors, handled by an adult
- 2 secure hooks or existing mounting points suitable for the surface
- Tape measure and a shallow sorting tray
Step-by-step instructions
- Measure the space between mounting points. Add enough cord for knots and a gentle drape, checking that the door and handles remain usable.
- Sort flowers and optional leaves, removing damaged pieces. Keep the needle and scissors in an adult-controlled part of the work area.
- Thread flower heads one at a time using an adult-handled needle. Avoid tightening so hard that the stems tear or the cord becomes stretched.
- Add leaves in a repeated pattern if your family uses them. Secure the ends with knots and check that the full garland holds together before lifting.
- Mount on secure suitable hooks without attaching to exposed electricals, cables or fragile trims. Test the door swing and keep the toran outside reach of passing heads.
- Check regularly for loose or wilted pieces. Remove the garland when needed and dispose of the fresh material through an appropriate local waste route.
