Materials & tools
- 4 clean, dry clay diyas
- Small paintbrush
- 4 battery-operated LED lights that fit securely
- Newspaper and a cloth
Step-by-step instructions
- Clean and dry the diyas. Set them on newspaper and check that each sits flat without wobbling.
- Choose a base colour and one accent colour; sketch a short dotted or scalloped border on the exterior.
- Paint a thin exterior coat, keeping the inside free of decoration, and dry according to the paint label.
- Add dots or petals around the outside edge. Keep the pattern consistent so the set looks coordinated.
- Allow all paint to dry fully before placing the battery lights inside. Do not force a light into a narrow diya.
- Arrange on a stable tray, check that the lights cannot tip out, and switch them off after use.
