A trail of lights should guide the eye without becoming an obstacle. Use LEDs for floor-level arrangements, steps and busy entrances, keeping the lamps beside the route rather than across it. This layout is a decoration and does not define the lamps required by a family ritual.
Keep ready
- 6–8 LED diyas with secure battery covers
- Stable trays or shallow stands
- Soft cloth
- Spare batteries stored by an adult
- Measuring tape if needed
How to do it
- 1Walk the route from the entrance to the main room and identify any narrow points or steps.
- 2Choose lamp positions beside the route on stable supports, keeping door swings, exits and handrails clear.
- 3Wipe the supports and test each LED. An adult should replace batteries and secure every compartment.
- 4Arrange lights in small evenly spaced groups, leaving enough room for people to carry bags or serving trays.
- 5Dim the room lights briefly and walk the route again. Move lamps that create confusing shadows or sit close to a footpath.
- 6Switch the LEDs off after the gathering. Collect every lamp and spare battery before children or pets use the area unsupervised.
