Mehndi-inspired glitter keepsake

Add shimmer to a paper hand design for a festive keepsake, keeping craft glitter and glue off skin.

  • Easy
  • 15 min active time
  • Use what you have
  • 6 steps

Before you begin

This project turns the idea of glitter mehndi into a paper decoration. Draw a light mehndi pattern on card and add a few large shimmer accents. It can sit beside a photograph or greeting card; it is not instructions for sticking craft materials onto hands.

Keep ready

  • 1 paper hand outline on card
  • Coloured pen
  • Metallic paper or large shimmer stickers
  • Paper glue, if using cut shapes
  • Scissors, adult help if needed

How to do it

  1. 1Place the paper hand on a protected table and draw a small flower with one leaf trail.
  2. 2Mark two or three points where a shimmer accent will sit, keeping most of the pen pattern visible.
  3. 3Cut large crescent or petal shapes from metallic paper, or choose ready-made large stickers.
  4. 4Attach the accents to the card only, using a small amount of paper glue if needed.
  5. 5Allow glue to dry according to its label, then write the celebration date on the back.
  6. 6Display beside a card or frame and collect spare pieces so children cannot put them in their mouths.

Helpful tips 💡

  • Metallic paper gives shimmer without loose glitter spreading around the room.
  • Craft glue, glitter and stones are not skin products; keep this design on card.

Plan ahead & keep for later

Draw the outline ahead. Allow extra drying time if using glue, and store flat once dry.

Check products before skin application and allow extra drying time. Read the mehndi aftercare guide. FDA henna guidance.

Common questions

Can I use craft glitter directly on mehndi?

This guide keeps craft materials on paper. Do not treat craft glitter or glue as products intended for skin.

How can I make it without glitter?

Use metallic paper or a metallic pen on the card; a few accents create the same decorative effect.
