Before you begin
This sargi thali is an assembly guide for one person, rather than a fixed ritual menu. Choose familiar foods and adjust the portions to your appetite and family tradition. Cook any homemade sweets or parathas separately; their cooking time is not included here.
Ingredients 🧂
- 1 small banana or 1 seasonal fruit
- 2 tbsp mixed nuts and dried fruit, optional
- 1 small prepared mathri or coconut ladoo
- ½ cup plain curd
- 1 small prepared paneer paratha, optional
- Water or your usual morning drink, as preferred
Method 👩🍳
- 1Wash your hands, the thali and serving bowls. Check which foods suit the person eating and any allergies.
- 2Wash the whole fruit under running water, peel if needed and cut it just before serving.
- 3Put the nuts and dried fruit in a small bowl; add the prepared sweet beside it.
- 4Warm a previously prepared paratha in a pan until hot throughout. Alternatively, choose another freshly cooked dish your family enjoys.
- 5Take curd out of the fridge just before serving, and keep wet foods in separate bowls.
- 6Serve before the start of your family’s fast, allowing time to eat without rushing. Offer water according to personal needs and the chosen observance.
Helpful tips 💡
- The paratha and sweet are optional: there is no need to fit every suggested food onto the plate.
- For a nut-free thali, omit nuts and check the sweet’s ingredients too.
Make ahead & storage
Set out clean plates and unopened dry ingredients the evening before. Keep curd and prepared cooked food refrigerated; cut fresh fruit in the morning.
Keep dairy and cooked food refrigerated at 4°C or below. Refrigerate within two hours, or one hour in temperatures above 32°C. Food storage guidance.
