Karva Chauth dinner table centrepiece

Arrange a low flower-and-LED centrepiece that leaves space for the parna meal.

  • Easy
  • 25 min active time
  • Use what you have
  • 6 steps

Before you begin

The table should support an unhurried meal rather than compete with it. Use a small tray, a short flower jar and one battery light. A low arrangement keeps faces visible and makes it easier to pass dishes across the table.

Keep ready

  • 1 small stable tray
  • 1 low jar or vase
  • A few flowers with trimmed stems
  • 1 battery-operated candle or diya
  • Clean cloth and serving bowls

How to do it

  1. 1Set out the serving bowls first so you know how much table space the meal needs.
  2. 2Place the tray in the remaining centre space, away from the table edge and the path of passing dishes.
  3. 3Fill the low vase with a little water and arrange a few short-stemmed flowers without loose petals on the eating surface.
  4. 4Add the LED light beside the vase, leaving room to reach its switch without moving the flowers.
  5. 5Sit in each chair to check that guests can see one another and reach their bowls comfortably.
  6. 6Wipe away water spills, check that the vase is stable and move the tray aside if more serving space is needed.

Helpful tips 💡

  • Battery lights suit a table with cloth, flowers and people passing dishes.
  • A single small arrangement is enough; keep the rest of the table useful.

Plan ahead & keep for later

Set the tray and serving ware before evening. Add flowers and water later, and keep cooked food safely stored until the meal.

Common questions

How tall should a dinner centrepiece be?

Keep it low enough that seated guests can see one another clearly. Check the view from the chairs before adding food.

Can I use real candles?

This arrangement uses LEDs because it includes flowers and table linen. Keep any separately lit lamp away from combustible decorations and supervise it continuously.
