SMALL TRAVELLER. A LITTLE EXTRA PLANNING.

Your baby’s first flight, one step at a time

Start with the essentials, then use the sections you need. You don’t have to solve the whole trip at once.

1. Choose a flight that works for your family

Start with the full journey

Include the drive to the airport, check-in, connections and the transfer after landing. A slightly longer flight can be easier than an airport change with a stroller and bags.

Work around your routine

Compare departure times with feeding and sleep routines. Leave the first day flexible rather than planning a paid activity immediately after arrival.

Check the baby’s travel category

Use the baby’s age on every travel date, including the return. If a birthday falls during the trip, ask the airline which ticket and seat arrangements apply.

Questions to ask before confirming
  • What is the airline’s minimum age for travel, and is clearance needed?
  • Is this a lap-infant fare or a separately purchased seat?
  • Does the airline accept your child restraint, and on which seats?
  • Can a bassinet be requested for this aircraft, and what limits apply?
  • What baggage and stroller allowances apply to each segment?

A bassinet or seat request is not guaranteed. Confirm with the operating airline, especially on journeys with more than one carrier.

2. Put documents in one easy-to-reach folder

Within India

Check the operating airline’s accepted proof of age and identity for your baby. Keep the required originals accessible, with backup copies stored securely.

Prepare your birth certificate journey →

International flights

Check the baby’s passport and the destination’s entry requirements. Confirm whether consent or additional documents are needed when travelling with one parent or another guardian.

Before leaving home

Check names and dates against the booking. Keep your itinerary, accommodation address and emergency contacts together. Do not pack essential documents in checked baggage.

A birth certificate is not a replacement for an international travel document. Passport and Aadhaar planning journeys are coming soon; use official government services for applications.

3. Pack for the journey and a possible delay

Build a small bag you can open with one hand. Adjust quantities to your travel time and your baby’s needs.

Changing kit

  • Nappies and wipes
  • Changing mat and disposal bags
  • Spare baby clothes
  • A spare top for the accompanying adult

Feeding kit

  • Usual feeding supplies and clean containers
  • Bibs and cloths
  • Age-appropriate food if needed
  • A plan for cleaning and preparing feeds during travel

Comfort kit

  • Familiar comfort item
  • Light layers for changing temperatures
  • One or two quiet toys
  • Essential prescribed medicines and relevant instructions
Milk, food, liquids and medicines

Check security rules for every departure and transit airport before packing. Do not assume ordinary liquid limits or exemptions are identical everywhere. Keep items accessible for inspection and ask the airline what warming or storage help is available.

Stroller and car-seat planning

Confirm whether your stroller can go to the gate, how it must be packed, and where you collect it after landing. If bringing a child seat, check acceptance before travelling; size alone does not establish approval for aircraft use.

4. A calmer airport day

  1. Before departure: check flight status, terminal and your airline’s arrival guidance. Allow extra time for feeding, changing and baggage handling.
  2. At check-in: confirm stroller collection, baggage tags and any requested family assistance. Ask about your connection if anything is unclear.
  3. Before boarding: change and feed as needed, refill essentials where permitted, and keep documents and the small baby bag accessible.
  4. On board: follow crew instructions for seating and restraints. Ask the crew for help rather than improvising with unapproved equipment.

If your baby is unwell, recently born, or has a medical condition, discuss travel with the child’s clinician and check airline clearance requirements. This guide provides planning help, not medical advice.

5. Make arrival the easy part

Arrange a transfer with appropriate child seating where needed. Confirm where the driver will meet you and whether your accommodation can help with an early arrival. Keep the first meal and rest stop simple.

For a connection, check whether bags and stroller transfer automatically. Separate tickets may mean collecting luggage and checking in again. Leave room for delays and changing facilities.

Quick answers

Do I have to select a seat or meal on Yojno?

No. These are optional requests. If the provider cannot return seat availability, continue with your flight enquiry. Yojno will confirm any requested extras and charges separately.

Will Yojno confirm a bassinet or infant ticket immediately?

No. Sending an enquiry does not book a ticket or reserve a seat or bassinet. We follow up by email to discuss your itinerary and availability.
